Tita refers to a local island woman with a strong character and influence respected within her family and community as teacher in school, culture, story history or life lessons. Hammerhead sharks are the only shark species to give birth live to between eight and thirteen pups (eleven here). The female ventures into the shallows of the calm water where the river mouth meets the bay. The pups are born in feet of water and acclimate quickly to water, swimming and breathing until the high tide guides them into the bay and out to open sea. Females from her litter will return to the same spot to birth their pups as taught.
